Season of Creation begins
Published on 1 September 2025 2 minutes read
Running from Monday 1 September, the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, to Saturday 4 October, the Feast of St Francis of Assisi, the Season of Creation encourages Christians of all denominations to engage in prayer and action for the protection of the environment.

The annual celebration sees Christians around the globe considering the wellbeing of the planet as well as celebrating the natural world.
This year's theme is 'Peace with Creation'.
First established in 1989 when the Ecumenical Patriarch of the Orthodox Church stated there should be a day of "protection of the natural environment", the Season of Creation has since gained support from other churches as well as the European Christian Environmental Network and the European Ecumenical Assembly.
A prayer from the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland
Rt Rev Rosie Frew has written a prayer marking the Season of Creation:
Creator God,
Let there be peace on earth
One world
Living in harmony
Caring for one another
Delighting in the wonders around us
Tending your creation
Let there be peace on earth
And yet…
Ours is a world at war
A world of enmity and hatred
A world of greed and destruction
A world of hunger and homelessness
God, forgive us
Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with you and me
Our words and actions
Our priorities and passions
Our love for our neighbours nearby and far away
Our care for land and air and sea
God, help us
Let there be peace on earth
The peace that was meant to be
A world of justice and joy
A world of fairness and respect
A world of kindness and compassion
A world of plenty for all
God, for this we pray
In Jesus' name
Amen
